Implantology

Dental implants compare with natural teeth in chewing efficiency, appearance and the care they need. Looking after an implant is no different from looking after your own teeth. That is why implants last so long, provided they are placed correctly and the restorations built on them are well planned.

Before implants are placed, a few examinations confirm that the patient is a suitable candidate. Uncontrolled diabetes, active smoking, alcoholism and certain other general and mental health conditions rule implants out. The most important examination is an X-ray of the available bone.

A CT or 3D scan of the jaws shows the condition and volume of the bone with great precision.

Placing an implant takes about 30 – 40 minutes for a single implant and up to two hours for several.

Healing takes about six months in the upper jaw and three to four months in the lower jaw.

The advantages of implants

Implants are a lasting, reliable way to replace lost teeth, with a natural look and function. They improve your bite and give you back confidence in your smile.

  • Replaces lost teeth
  • Preserves the bone
  • A lasting solution for missing teeth

Ceramic (zirconia) implants

Besides classic titanium implants, at Grande Dental we also place ceramic implants made of zirconium dioxide. They contain no metal, are white, and suit patients who prefer a metal-free solution or are sensitive to metals.

The white colour matters where the gum is thin and in the visible part of the smile - a titanium implant can sometimes show through the gum as a greyish shade, a ceramic one does not. Zirconium dioxide is a biocompatible material that bone and gum accept well, and plaque adheres to its surface less.

Planning follows the same path - an examination, a 3D scan and a treatment plan. At the consultation Dr Martin Popov will judge whether a ceramic or a titanium implant suits your case better, as the choice depends on the position in the jaw, the amount of bone and the restoration planned.

  • Metal-free - suitable for patients sensitive to metals
  • White colour, natural-looking gum
  • A biocompatible material the tissues tolerate well
